I am starting this Page over here to help our friends who dont know sindhi to  learn sindhi.

Below are a few basic words. These are the most common sindhi language words. Learning sindhi would involve knowing the meaning of each of these words.

Questions

  1. what: cha
  2. when: kadhi
  3. how: keyah
  4. who: ker
  5. why: cho
  6. where: kahte

 

here: hithey
there: hutey

 

you: tu, tokhe, tawahkey, tawah(tawah, tawahkey,  is used to address elders and give respect)
your: tuhinjo, tawanjo (tawanjo is used to address elders and give respect)
me: maa
mine: muhinjo, munjo
our: aasaha
ours: aasahanjo
we: aasi, aasah

 

name: nalo

 

is: aahey
was: huyo
are: ta

 

come: aach, aacho (aacho is used to address elders and give respect)
go: wan, wano (wano is used to address elders and give respect)

 

Give: Diyo
Take: kharo

 

do: kar,
doing: kareyto
done: kayum

 

Yes: Haa
No: Naa

 

Thank You: Meharbani
Please: Maharbani Karey
Ok: Theek

Its fun.. try using the words above and make sentances, im sure u would get most of it right.

Please note: I am not a prof. of sindhi language or something. Its just a modest attempt to share what i have been privleged to learn from my family and relatives.

I am not quite sure how can this help in terms of pronounciation but then i am sure you would have people around you to help you with it.

eighteen: aar-rah
nineteen: urnveeah
twenty: veeha

 

I am working on more basic sindhi language words and thier meaning, i will post them soon. Trying to add them in logical squence to make it more helpful. Hope you find it useful, do try and use them while conversing with your family and sindhi friends.

Son: Put (procounced like the english word put)

Daughter: deeya, deeya-dariyah

Wife: Joay, Jornas

Husband: Pai (Not pronounaced like pay as in to pay)

Grand Father (Paternal): Dado, dadey

Grand Mother (Paternal): Ama, Daadee

Grand Father (Maternal): Nana, nano

Grand Mother (Maternal): nani

Grand Son (Son's son)- Poto

Grand Daughter (Son's Daughter) - Potee

Grand Son (Daughter'son)- Doto

Grand Daughter (Daughter's Daughter) - Doitee

Brother-in-law: Saaloo (for the guy)
                          Der (for the girl)

Sister-in-law: Niraar

Mother-in-law: Saaas

Father-in-law: Saorow

Uncle: Chacho

Aunty: Chachi

Nephew: Bathijo

Nice: Bathijee

  5. My name is Manish                          ---> Muhinjo Nalo Manish Aahey (plz do replace Manish with ur name when u use this startement hehe;-)                                                   
  6. It was my pleassure meeting you    ---> Tawah Sa Mili Mukhe Daadi Khushi Thee
  7. Where do you stay?                          ---> Tawah Kathey Rawanda aayo?
  8. I stay in India/mumbai                    ---> Maa Bharat / mumbai mein rawando aayah.
  9. Happy Birthday                                ---> Janam Diyah Ji Lakh Lakh Waadayu Tav. (now a days lakh is a small amount thanks to inflation, so we sindhi ppl say crore crore wadayu tav)               
  10. I like you                                         ---> mukhe tu warndi aahey (when a guy says it)
                                                                     mukhe tu warndo aahey (when a girl says it)
  11. I love You a lot                                ---> Muhke Tawansa jaam pyar aahey
  12. Do you also love me                       ---> Cha tawah key bhi musah pyaar aahey?
  13. You are very beautful!                     ---> Tu Dadi Suhiree Aahey!(when a guy says it)
                                                                     Tu Dado Suhiroo Aahey!(when a girl says it)
  14. Will you come out with me?            ---> Tawah musah gumhar halandav?
  15. Give me your blessings                   ---> Mukhe aasees kayo.
  16. Thanks to the all mightly god         ---> Bhagwan jo shukur aahey
  17. I am feeling thirsty, please give me water ---> Mujhe uunaay lagi aahey, meharbani karey mukhe paarree taa peeyar.
  18. I am hungry                                    ---> Mukhey bookh lagi aahey
  19. Give me food                                  ---> Mukhe mani/rasoi/khado ta diyo.
  20. Happy New Year                             ---> Happy Chetichand
                                                                    Nayeh saal ji crore crore waadayu tav
                                                                    Chetichand Ji crore core waadayu tav

 These are some of the sindhi language statements which i felt are very common and regularly used. So, If any one wishes to learn sindhi, he/she would definately require to know the meaning of these statement and would definatley using these top 20 sindhi lines while conversing in sindhi.

Hope you all found these sindhi to english and english to sindhi translations helpful to learn sindhi languge and the common sindhi words are useful to start building up your sindhi vocabulary.
